Building Resiliency through Engagement in North Texas

Welcome to the North Texas Chapter of the Association of Continuity Professionals (ACP). ACP is a non-profit professional organization, which provides a forum for the exchange of experiences and information, for business continuity professionals, throughout a network of local chapters.

Founded in March of 1986, the North Texas Chapter is one of the oldest continuously meeting chapters, and among the largest by membership, serving the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and surrounding region.

Events are generally held on the first Tuesday of every month but may vary due to holidays or speaker schedules. Events are for current members and invited guests only.  If you aren't a member but want to attend one of our events, please contact us or consider joining the chapter.

President's Address

Hello ACP Members,

June is here, bringing with it a midpoint in the year—and a perfect opportunity to revisit the foundation of our programs: operational resilience. According to ISO 22301, resilience means more than just recovery. It’s about maintaining the delivery of products and services at acceptable predefined levels during a disruption.

ISO 22301 encourages organizations to take a risk-based, proactive approach to continuity. This means identifying critical activities, understanding dependencies, and defining business continuity objectives that reflect real-world tolerances. June is a great month to assess whether your program reflects those principles. Have your business impact analyses been updated? Are your recovery time objectives still realistic in today’s environment?

Summer introduces seasonal risks—severe weather, power outages, and staffing gaps due to vacations. These challenges test the real-world readiness of your plans. ISO 22301 reminds us to regularly test and review continuity arrangements. A well-executed exercise this month could reveal critical gaps, strengthen cross-functional coordination, and validate recovery strategies across business units. Don’t overlook supplier and third-party dependencies. Are your external partners contractually and operationally aligned with your continuity requirements? ISO emphasizes the importance of managing external risks as part of the overall resilience strategy.

Finally, resilience is a shared responsibility. ISO 22301 stresses leadership involvement and employee awareness. Engage your teams. Reinforce roles. Make resilience part of the culture—not just a plan on the shelf.

Let’s use this month to check in, fine-tune, and keep our programs aligned with best practices—so we can deliver continuity not just in principle, but in practice.

Wishing you a resilient and well-prepared June!

Joel Navarro, CBCP, MBCI
